"What do you mean the uniforms and other items we ordered won’t be ready for opening day? We ordered them 4 months ago!”, I said to the vendor as calmly as I could. The vendor replied "We’re looking into it. I’ll let you know when I find something out.” When did great customer service become virtually extinct? I sat in my chair thinking about how I was going to explain this disaster to the players and their parents and how poorly this made our organization look. It was at that moment that I decided the only way customer service was going to improve for me and other coaches was to take action myself.
Batter Up Sports, LLC is a veteran-owned business devoted to the game of baseball and softball. We focus on youth, community, and high school sports organizations who typically get sub-standard service from industry leaders since these organizations tend to make smaller purchases on a team-basis but buy more frequently. Our approach to business is simple—build long-term relationships with our customers. We don’t just do what it takes to make a one-time immediate sale. We strive to build a trust-based partnership and become a resource our customers have to solve on-going problems and meet emerging needs. This philosophy helps us differentiate Batter Up Sports, LLC from our competitors.
So you might be wondering who is the veteran that qualifies Batter Up Sports, LLC as a veteran-owned business? That’s my sister and business partner, Megan. She’s proudly served in the United States Air Force for the last 25 years. During her career she’s picked up the skills needed to successfully run various customer service operations such as clubs, hotels, bowling centers, youth centers, and retail operations just to name a few. Megan handles the "back office” operations and I handle the sales and customer relations side of the house. I’ve been around the game of baseball for over 40 years, either as a player, an umpire, or a coach, so I know what coaches and players need and the challenges coaches sometimes face in getting the necessary equipment. I’m currently the bench coach for the local high school varsity baseball team as well as a coach for a youth traveling baseball team. Plus I’ve been in sales for the last 25 years. Megan and I each bring a different skill set to Batter Up Sports, LLC and between the two of us, we have all the bases cover (no pun intended) to understand and meet our customers’ needs.
